OUR HISTORY
La Cosecha Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs have addressed healthy food access through culturally grounded programs such as the community supported agriculture seasonal distribution and nutrition education. Its uniquely modeled food share CSA has fed thousands of New Mexicans healthy, locally- and organically- grown food.
La Cosecha CSA provides subsidized and sponsored produce for qualified low-income families so that the cost of healthy local foods is accessible to everyone in our community.
La Cosecha CSA began in 2012 when the Agri-Cultura Network farmers noticed that their produce was not being distributed in the South Valley. This was a matter of concern for the farmers because the South Valley is considered a food desert and has a high percentage of unemployment. This means a lack of access to healthy food and lack of resources to pay for it. The farmers wanted to feed their neighbors and community while also wanting to support the local South Valley economy. We expanded the CSA program into Martineztown and the International District in 2016, recognizing the same needs and struggles were being experienced in these neighborhoods. Referrals from our partner clinics and sites, we reach many who are food insecure or are struggling with a chronic illness.
